Hi everyone
Just one notice this week, there will be no support at YNiC on Wednesday
12th June, due to staff attending the Yorkshire Vision Network meeting.
The centre will still be open for use.
Hope you have a good week.
Kind regards

Hi everyone
Please be aware that the majority of YNiC staff will be unavailable on 12th
June for the Yorkshire Vision Network meeting. Therefore, there will be no
support or operator cover on this day, but the centre will still be open.

Hi all
Please be aware that next week (w/c 3rd June) we have very limited Level 3
availability for signing off safety forms. If you have any participants
being scanned next week that will need a signature you must get these
signed-off no later than Monday afternoon.
You can get the participant safety form printed at reception, and you can
also hand these back to reception once the forms are signed if you have
nowhere safe to store them before the scan. Reception will attach the
signed form …
[View More]to the general consent sheet, which you can collect as normal
on the day of the scan.
It should be noted that it is standard procedure to obtain signatures in
advance of the scan day - we cannot guarantee that booked scans will go
ahead if a signature is not obtained in advance.
We appreciate your understanding in this process, and in the importance of
participant safety over research.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Kind regards

Hi everyone
Just a reminder that we have guest speaker Dr Vincent Costa giving a talk
at YNiC this afternoon at 4pm, followed by refreshments. This promises to
be an interesting session, and we encourage you all to attend:
-
*Title: *More than a feeling: A comparison of amygdala and ventral striatum
contributions to reinforcement learning
*Abstract:* If you ask a neuroscientist about emotion, they would probably
give you the skinny about every amygdala study ever written. If you ask
them …
[View More]about reward, they would probably give you a syllabus filled with
references to the ventral striatum. But I’ll bet they can’t tell you what
specific computations are computed in the amygdala relative to the ventral
striatum. This is because traditional views of reinforcement learning have
held that the striatum integrates dopaminergic reward prediction errors to
facilitate learning, but have not ascribed a specific role for the
amygdala. After decades of research suggesting the amygdala mainly
contributes to emotion and simpler forms of associative learning,
researchers are just beginning to explore the computational boundaries of
amygdala function. The emerging perspective, which I will discuss, is that
standard accounts of reinforcement learning that emphasize stratal and
cortical contributions, should be revised to include a key role for the
amygdala.
Hope to see you there!
Kind regards

indices of spatial summation in visual cortex*"
2. *Thursday 30th at 4pm *- guest speaker Dr Vincent Costa will be
visiting us from Oregon Health & Science University. This promises to be
an interesting session, and we encourage you all to attend:

Hi everyone
We have a couple of updates for you this week:
1. We now have new monitors for all of the stimulus PCs, which have a
resolution of 1920x1080, and are capable of 120Hz refresh rate. We will
add instructions next to each stim PC on how to check/change the refresh
rate on your user profile.
2. The centre will be *closed on Monday 27th May*, for the bank holiday.
3. We will be running our next *YNiC user induction this Wednesday 22nd
May at 2pm*. If you are …
[View More]aware of any students/staff that will require
an IT account for YNiC, they must complete a User Induction first.
Please ask them to contact support(a)ynic.york.ac.uk to sign up for the

Hi all
This week the MSc projects will begin on both scanners, and will continue
for the next 10 weeks, so the scanners will be continually busy over this
period.
Please be aware that during busy scanning periods it can take longer for
data to appear in subject folders, particularly for subjects that have
never been scanned before. We will always check that data gets sent, so
please *only* contact if an incomplete dataset has come through for a
subject e.g. one scan is missing from a scan …

Hi there,
There is a *slot available from 15:45 until 17:00 tomorrow in the Siemens*
in case you anyone is interested.
The slot is currently booked for my project (P1370). However, the
participant scheduled is not willing to come tomorrow for his second day of
scanning and -because of the experimental design- we cannot recruit anyone
new at this point.
If you interested in booking the slot please email @Joe Lyons
<joe.lyons(a)york.ac.uk> and he will be able to update the booking.
Cheers,…

Hi everyone
There are a couple of things you should be aware of over the coming weeks:
1. The GE scanner is now fully operational, so scanning slots can be
booked. Thanks again for your patience during the unexpected downtime.
2. A large proportion of YNiC staff will be away for the MEG UK
conference from Monday 15th to Wednesday 17th April, and therefore support
will be limited during this period.
*Specifically, if you need Level 3 signatures for any scanning on these
…
[View More]days they must be obtained no later than 12th April (n.b. signatures should
always be arranged before the scan day). *
3.
*YNiC will be closed for the Bank Holidays on 19th and 22nd April *
4. We have provisionally scheduled our next User Induction for Thursday
18th April at 10am, subject to availability and interest. Please ask any
relevant students/staff to email support(a)ynic.york.ac.uk to sign up if
they intend to start using the centre.
Hope you have a great week!

Hello everyone,
Things to note this week:
1. The *GE* scanner requires a replacement cold head and so will be
*unavailable
until Wednesday the 3rd of April at the earliest. *
2. YNiC was closed for maintenance last week, this included IT upgrades
with security patching and fibre work, adjustments to the security alarm
system, and a layout change. The central meeting room off open plan is now
an extension to the staff office.
* Consent debriefing and other private …
[View More]interviews should be carried out in
the small sound-proof room opposite the PhD office in open plan, or the
interview room on the MRI corridor. *
3. YSPL will be doing maintenance on IT systems this week, however, this
is not expected to affect uses.
4. A large cohort of YNiC staff will be away for the MEG UK conference
15-17th of April.
*Signatures for conditional exceptions on consent forms for 15th-17th of
April must be organized for no later than the 12th of April. We would also
like to remind users that exceptions in consent forms should be arranged in
advance of the scan day in all cases. *
5. We have provisionally scheduled our next *User Induction on Thursday
the 18th of April at 10am*. Subject to availability and interest.
Please ask any relevant students/staff to email support(a)ynic.york.ac.uk
to sign up if they intend to start using the centre.
Best wishes,

scans will be operating in this period due to unexpected scanner downtime
but the facility will not be accepting new bookings and will not be open
for other users.
2. A number of YNiC forms have been updated. *Please ensure that you use
the latest forms from the YNiC website
<https://www.ynic.york.ac.uk/docs/forms>* and, as usual, please read all
…
[View More]forms in full before signing.
Note that we will no longer start training operators until their PI/ line
manager signs to confirm that they have completed all statutory University
training.
3. We have provisionally scheduled our next *User Induction on Thursday the
4th of April at 10am*. Subject to availability and interest. Please ask
any relevant students/staff to email support(a)ynic.york.ac.uk to sign up
