ECR Christmas Party 2013

Dear all, The annual Christmas party will be held on *Thursday 5th December* at *The Churchill* <http://www.churchillhotel.com/> (65 Bootham, York), from 7pm. The cost is *£23* and includes a free drink before the three-course meal. The meal was really tasty last year and the menu for this year looks as though it will be of the same high standard! Guests, including partners, are welcome. As always, the money is due in advance. We'll be coming around offices to make collections on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th October, so make sure you have some cash ready for us. Research Associate (Fixed Term) http://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/2037/ Applications are invited for the position of post-doctoral researcher on a grant addressing the neuroscience of unconscious perception and 'free' choices. The grant is funded by the John Templeton Foundation and the successful candidate will program and conduct (behavioural and imaging) experiments, analyse neuroimaging data and assist with preparation of papers for publication. Candidates should have, or be in the final stages of obtaining, a PhD in Psychology / Cognitive Neuroscience. The successful candidate will have solid programming skills (MATLAB and/or Python) and have experience of imaging analysis (e.g. SPM, Fieldtrip, MNE). Previous experience of MEG or EEG would be particularly advantageous, though strong fMRI backgrounds will also be seriously considered. Dear Users This Thursday (4.15-5.15 pm in YNiC open plan) there will be a "Tutorial in the application of resting state fMRI" organised by Jonny Smallwood from the Department of Psychology and Chris Gorgolewski (MPI Cognitive and Brain Sciences). Please note the earlier start time of the seminar from 4.15 pm following the new timetabling in Psychology. There will be additional talks on resting state networks during the morning of 10th October (from 10 am to 12.30 pm) at YNiC. The “Cognitive Neuropsychiatry” working group at the Department of General Psychiatry, University of Heidelberg, Germany offers a half-time**PhD-position in the field of neuropsychology and functional neuroimaging. The project is funded by the German Research Council (DFG) and will investigate neural network correlates of verbal auditory hallucinations (“hearing voices”) in patients with schizophrenia. A special focus is set on detailed phenomenology combined with neuropsychology and multimodal network characterization using fMRI. The successful candidate is highly motivated, shows a strong interest in psychiatric neuroscience and neuroimaging and holds a diploma/master in psychology, biology, neuroscience, or an equivalent field. Ideally, the applicant has relevant prior knowledge of functional and/or structural neuroimaging methods (e.g. fMRI data acquisition, processing and analysis) and is familiar with at least one MRI data analysis software package. Experience with basic statistical software packages is a requirement, and prior experience in experimental psychology and additional programming skills (e.g. Matlab) are advantageous. As direct study participant contact is an integral part of the research project, an excellent command of the German language is required. The position is available from *November 2013* onwards for 3 years. A Position is open for a Laboratory Manager at the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Center at the Department of Radiology in Temple University located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Candidates with a Master’s degree in a field related to Neuroimaging/Bioengineering/Electrical Engineering, or bachelor’s degree with 2 years’ experience in MR imaging are encouraged to apply for this position. Significant knowledge in neuroimaging particularly in BOLD/diffusion imaging is required. Strong programming experience in Matlab, C/C++ or similar platforms, SPM, FSL, Brain Voyager will be a plus. *Postdoctoral fellowship in model-based fMRI of psychiatric disorders* The lab of Prof. Tiago V. Maia is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to conduct research on model-based fMRI of psychiatric disorders. The lab is located in the School of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (Portugal). There may also be opportunities to spend time at the Department of Psychiatry of Columbia University (USA), where Prof. Maia also has a faculty appointment. Research in the lab focuses on using fMRI, neurocomputational models, and behavioral experimentation to understand the neural bases of cognition and emotion and the disruption of these processes in psychiatric disorders. The University of Cambridge, Department of Clinical Neurosciences are looking to recruit a senior research associate* to join the Stroke Research Team. You will play a central role in establishing and developing a major programme of stroke MRI research at Cambridge which focuses particularly on the imaging of patients with ischaemic white matter disease. You will be integrally involved setting up a number of new MRI projects, and also will have access to large existing multimodal MRI datasets which provide an excellent resource for developing novel image analysis techniques and correlating MRI markers with cognitive and clinical parameters. In addition to supervising clinical fellows, other staff involved with image analysis and PhD students, you will be encouraged to develop your own areas of research within stroke imaging and to apply for grants in these areas. You will have a PhD in a relevant area and experience in MR image analysis which ideally should involve brain imaging. Individuals with previous MR experience outside stroke are encouraged to apply and training can be given in the clinical aspects relating to stroke. *NB: The status of Senior Research Associate is awarded on the basis of individual merit and may be awarded to the successful candidate if approved by the Faculty Board of the Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine. The CMRR at the University of Minnesota seeks to recruit two additional postdoctoral associates to join the WashU-UMinn Human Connectome Project (HCP). The postholder will be actively working in the component of the HCP that focuses on optimization of data acquisitions and data analysis for resting state and task induced fMRI (R/T-fMRI), and diffusion imaging for high angular resolution diffusion imaging (HARDI), with different subject populations. Responsibililties include: Data acquisition and optimization at 3T and 7T, testing, debugging and optimization at 3T and 7T, evaluating the performance with the RF coils that will be developed within the HCP project, provide feedback and evaluations on RF coil performance, and provide feedback regarding resting state and diffusion data pre-processing.
