Hi All,
*For everyone:* we've updated some of the YNIC documents, so please make
sure you use:
- Version 10 of the REC application form,
- Version 10 of the Participant Information Sheet,
- Version 4 of the YNIC Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA).
We'll get all these forms on the website as soon as possible, but they're
attached here as I know some of you are waiting for them.
*For MEG users:* we now have a separate questionnaire for MEG, so you will
use the MEG questionnaire for MEG, the existing one for fMRI and both if
your participant is having MEG and fMRI.
We also now have DPIA approval for the LIDAR system, which involves
acquiring and storing images of the participant's face. Please note that
researchers will have access to the transformation matrix generated with
these images, but only YNIC staff will have access to the images
themselves. Please do not attempt to copy or keep these images! The
procedures are explained in the new DPIA (version 4, attached). If you wish
to deviate from these procedures, you will need to check whether you'll
need to get your own DPIA approval.
Any questions, please let me know.
Best wishes,
Fiona
Hi All,
We will be holding our annual induction of Masters students, next week. Due
to the large number of students involved, the open-plan area will be
unavailable for the duration. Remote services will be available as usual
for you to continue your work.
Cheers,
Rich

Hello,
Just a reminder, we will be taking the YNiC IT systems offline on *Thursday
the 5th and Friday the 6th of September *to perform essential security
updates. *This will affect all YNiC IT services including the remote
desktops and the cluster, and no scanning will be available during this
period. *
Cheers,
Rich

Hi All,
This would be a great conference for anyone anticipating using our new
OPM-MEG system, see details below.
Cheers,
Rich
MEG-UKI provides a platform for researchers exploring hardware development,
analysis methods, cognitive neuroscience and clinical translation to come
together and discuss their research into Magnetoencephalography.
The Centre for Human Brain Health at the University of Birmingham is
hosting a series of meetings covering a broad range of topics in MEG
research. We hope that hosting these in close proximity will provide
opportunity for broad interdisciplinary conversations as well as saving on
participant time, travel expenses and logistics.

Hello,
Just to remind everyone that we have our final seminar of the academic year
this afternoon* at 2pm. Dr Clara Humpston* will be presenting a talk titled*
“Structural and functional neural correlates of anomalous self-experiences
in a nonclinical sample”*.
Please join us at YNiC to listen to the talk in Open Plan, or catch it on

Hi all,
Our next talk will be about *Pipelines and Workflow Management*, presented
by Alastair Droop from the University's Data Science Hub.
It will take place on *Wednesday the 12th of June from 14:00 - 15:00 in
PS/C/003 Lecture Room <https://www.york.ac.uk/map/#locidps-c-003>
(Psychology).* It will also be available online at
*http://bit.ly/YorkCodingClub*
<https://www.google.com/url?q=http://bit.ly/YorkCodingClub&sa=D&source=calen…>
.
Alastair is going to talk us through use cases for and development of
effective workflow management pipelines - reproducible sequences of
well-defined computational tasks. Alastair will be illustrating their use
with Nextflow.
*This will definitely be of interest to* *anybody whose work includes data
analysis*, but these techniques can be applied to a wide range of
computational tasks so do come along if you have the time.
Hope to see you there.

NOBODY should discuss, either between themselves or with the participant
scanned, anything they think they may or may not have seen on
that participant's MRI scan. This applies while in the scan room while
someone is being scanned, or after when looking at their data.
Anyone who sees something on a scan can bring any concerns to any member of
YNiC staff. This should be done DISCRETELY (i.e. behind a closed door) as
soon as possible after their scan session - do not call someone to the scan
room or stand in open plan and say "I saw something weird in this person's
brain".
Discussing potentially sensitive details about someone's MRI scan could
constitute a breach of confidentiality and there could be very serious
consequences - Just don't do it.
Please rest assured that we have processes in place to have participants'
scans reviewed by medical professionals if required. And we implement those
processes as discretely as we can. Please help us do that.
Sincerely,
--
André
