Apologies, All, the GE scanner is down until further notice. The water chiller that we have been having difficulties with has finally given up the ghost. Plans for replacement are underway. Hello All, 1. A day for your diaries: 14th September 'YNiC Science Day' will be held in B020. More details to follow from Jonny nearer the time. 2. YNiC will be close 11th September to reopen 24th September. This will allow for our annual maintenance and upgrades to the centre. 3. Dear All, *The Science Day 2018*, held in our department, is slowly approaching us. During that day, Jonny and I would like to display posters that YNiC users, especially ECRs, have presented at conferences over the last year. If any of you have posters buried in dust in the dark corners of your offices and would like them to see a daylight again, please let us know. NOTE: It is not required to stand next to the poster, so even if you are away on that day, we can still present your awesome work to the department. GE Scanner - repairs underway

Hi all, I am afraid that the GE scanner is in need of repair that means it may be out of service for at least a week. In light of the recent UK weather patterns, you will probably not be surprised to hear that this is due to the failure of one of the water chillers. We will keep you updated with the status of the scanner. Removal of Windows from YNiC stimulus PCs

Hi all, There has been a marked decrease in the usage of Windows on the YNiC provided stimulus PCs over the past 3 years. This appears to due to three main factors: 1) We no longer provide licenses for Presentation and E-Prime on our machines (Windows specific packages) 2) There has been an increase in the number of users who use their own stimulus laptops (and plug them into our projector & response box) 3) YNiC has invested heavily in getting the two most commonly used stimulus packages (PsychoPy and PsychToolbox) running efficiently on Linux. Maintaining a managed, networked Windows build for stimulus delivery use is a significant overhead for us. Due to the lack of use of the Windows build on our machines, we are *proposing to **remove Windows entirely from our stimulus PCs* during our next planned system maintenance scheduled for September 2018.
