The job requires working in an interdisciplinary team of researchers on longstanding questions of how brain oscillations orchestrate brain functions, or relate to brain dysfunction. Please find the details below: *** Department Center of Neurodevelopmental Disorders at Karolinska Institutet (KIND)(www.ki.se/kind) KIND is a competence center for research, development and education within the area of developmental psychopathology. The center is established in collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm County Council, and aims at improving clinical practice, generating basic research, and spreading new knowledge to stakeholders. The Roots of Autism Twin Study Sweden (RATSS) is a frontline research project within KIND, focusing on monozygotic twins being discordant for autism spectrum disorder and other neurodevelopmental disorders, e.g. ADHD. For the first time ever, twins are examined on multiple levels, among them functional and structural neuroimaging using MRI. Scanning is performed in the Karolinska Institutet MR Research Center, using a 3 Tesla MR scanner (GE MR750), and more than 45 pairs have now been examined. *** Duties As a post-doc, you will be mainly responsible for the acquisition and analyses of the multimodal neuroimaging data. This includes DTI, resting-state fMRI and structural T1, to be combined according to a brain connectome approach. This work will be done in close collaboration with the department of Clinical Neuroscience. This position will be filled between now and January 1, 2014, although ideally by 9/1/13. The fellow MUST have knowledge and experience in both task-based fMRI and resting state BOLD functional connectivity analysis and should be within 5 years of completion of a PhD in a functional imaging-related field. Experience with graph theoretic analysis of resting state BOLD data is highly desirable. Familiarity with fMRI analysis software packages (e.g., AFNI), presentation software (e.g., E-Prime), and Linux OS, strong computer programming skills (e.g., in C/C++ & especially MATLAB) and prior fMRI & image processing experience are absolute requirements. Neurocognitive processes underpinning different aspects of Mental Resilience Applications are invited for a 4 year PhD studentship fully funded by the Ministry of Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL), supervised by Prof Paul Downing (School of Psychology), Prof Lew Hardy, and Dr. Ross Roberts (School of Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences). The studentship includes payment of UK / EU level tuition fees and a maintenance allowance of £13,726. All PhDs funded by DSTL are subject to MODREC approval. Project Description This studentship is to support an interdisciplinary project that will focus on expanding current conceptualisations of Mental Resilience to include both decision making under pressure and emotional responses to traumatic situations. The project will use functional MRI to examine the neurocognitive processes underlying these different forms of mental resilience, and will also examine how the capacity to utilise these processes predicts performance and mental well-being in military environments. The project represents a collaboration between world-leading researchers in elite human performance and in cognitive neuroscience, from two Schools at Bangor University.
