2 Post Doc, 2 PhD, Helsinki, Finland
We are looking to recruit 2 post-doctoral researchers with an
established track record either in cognitive neuroscience utilizing
human electrophysiological recordings (MEG, EEG, SEEG, ECoG) or in
technical/mathematical sciences such as signal processing,
neuroinformatics, information theory, and complex systems, or in both. A
successful applicant will have a high level of innovativity, commitment,
courage, and inspiration to carry out top-level systems-neuroscience
research. Strong writing skills are essential and a background in
mathematics and programming useful. We are, in particular, looking for
researchers experienced in the field of neuronal oscillations, dynamics,
and connectomics.
The post-doctoral positions are for 2 year contracts with a possibility
for an extension, but also shorter visits may be considered.
Multi-disciplinary systems neuroscience research is thriving in the
Helsinki region with available experimental approaches ranging from
genetics to MEG/EEG/fMRI and TMS. It is also worth noting that through
effective child- and healthcare, high-quality public school system, and
safe environment, Finland offers excellent possibilities for moving in
with a family.
We are also looking for 2 enthusiastic, talented, and highly motivated
graduate students with a strong background in systems neuroscience
and/or in relevant mathematical/technical sciences. Work experience in
relevant research groups will be valuable.
The post-doctoral researchers and graduate students will work in the
research groups of Satu and J. Matias Palva
(
www.helsinki.fi/neurosci/groups/palva_satu.html ,
www.helsinki.fi/neurosci/groups/palva.html). The overarching aim of the
present research projects is to understand the mechanisms coordinating
collective neuronal activity into cognitive operations such as
attention, conscious perception, and working memory. The work involves
psychophysics, electrophysiological recordings (MEG, EEG, and SEEG),
neuroimaging (MRI, fMRI, DTI), interventional approaches (e.g., TMS,
BCI), and high-level data analyses and computational neuroscience
approaches. The projects involve also several international
collaborators and belong, in part, to the Human Brain Project.
Applicants are invited to send satu.palva(a)helsinki.fi and
matias.palva(a)helsinki.fi their CV, list of publications, motivation
letter, and contact info for persons who can give recommendations.
Potential candidates are also encouraged to send an inquiry email if
they wish to find out more about the position before applying. The
application deadline is 31.5.2014, but recruitment is effective
immediately and positions may be filled already before the deadline.
