-----------------------------
Within the newly established Collaborative Research Center
(„Sonderforschungsbereich“ SFB 940) „Volition and Cognitive Control“ the
Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Mathematics und Natural
Sciences seeks to appoint a
Ph.D. student (salary 65%) or post-doctoral fellow (salary 100%)
The position is initially limited to 3 years.
The Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) “Volition and Cognitive Control”
(
http://tu-d
dresden.de/die_tu_dresden/fakultaeten/fakultaet_mathematik_und_naturwissenschaften/fachrichtung_psychologie/sfbo)
comprises 20 sub-projects and is funded by the German Science Foundation
(DFG) for an initial period of four years with a budget of over 10 Mill.
€. The overarching aim of the CRC is to combine expertise from
experimental psychology, cognitive-affective neuroscience, clinical
psychology, and psychiatry to investigate cognitive and neural
mechanisms of volitional control as well as volitional dysfunctions in
selected mental disorders.
Tasks: The sub-project „Neurocognitive processes supporting flexible
voluntary action“ examines the ability to adopt novel behaviors from
symbolic instruction enabling behavior that it is directed towards
desired (instructed) goals instead of being triggered by the currently
most salient environmental cues or habitual action tendencies. The
candidate is expected to participate in the design and implementation of
behavioral and fMRI experiments, analyzing the data (both univariate as
well as multivariate connectivity) as well as authoring scientific
publications. Language for daily research communication will be English.
Profile: We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong
interest in Cognitive Neuroscience with a Master or equivalent degree in
Psychology or related fields. We expect the ability to work
independently, excellent statistics knowledge, the willingness to learn
programming languages (Matlab, etc.), and proficient English.
Programming skills and previous experience with fMRI are an advantage.
Candidates on the post-doctoral level should be familiar with
neuroscientific research (own publications are an advantage) and should
be skilled in programming.
For further information please contact one of the project leaders, Dr.
Uta Wolfensteller (phone: +49-351-463-32582, email
uta.wolfensteller(a)tu-dresden.de) or Dr. Hannes Ruge (phone:
+49-351-463-33824, email: ruge(a)psychologie.tu-dresden.de). Applications
from women are especially welcomed, same holds for persons with
disabilities. Please provide your application, including CV, summary of
previous research activities, and letters of recommendation (one for
Ph.D., two for Post-Doc) until July, 31st 2012 via email
(uta.wolfensteller(a)tu-dresden.de) or via mail to: TU Dresden, Fakultät
Mathematik und Naturwissenschaften, Fachrichtung Psychologie, Professur
für Allgemeine Psychologie, Frau Dr. Wolfensteller, 01062 Dresden.
