Hello All,
This week's seminar will be given by Magdalena Sliwinska who is a
post-doctoral researcher at Imperial, working with Richard Wise.
Please join us at YNiC. - 16:15 Thursday the 23rd @ YNiC for her
presentation which will be:
Investigating the importance of
domain-general neural networks for vocabulary learning:
There is now good evidence
indicating that domain-general brain systems play a central role
in various
language processes, and potentially in the recovery from
post-stroke aphasia. Part
of the so-called salience network, consisting of adjacent areas in
the midline
superior frontal gyrus (SFG) and dorsal anterior cingulate cortex
(dACC), forms
a core component of these distributed systems. In this talk, I
will present
results from a study that was designed to collect
proof-of-principle data on
healthy individuals, prior to a study on post-stroke aphasia, to
assess whether
novel vocabulary learning activates the salience network and
whether cortical
stimulation applied to this midline frontal brain region can
influence
vocabulary learning.
Have a good week and hope to see you on Thursday.
Andre'
