Dear Users
This afternoon (from 4 pm in B020), David Coggan will give an
internal project proposal presentation on "Adaptation to
scrambled images in category-selective regions of the ventral
visual pathway".
Abstract:
Category-selective responses in the ventral visual pathway have led
researchers to conclude that this region encodes high-level,
categorical representations. However, it is unclear whether these
regions are truly responding to the category of an object, or the
low-level visual properties that are commonly found in that
category. Recently, we demonstrated that category-selective patterns
of neural activity in the ventral visual pathway can be replicated
with phase-scrambled images that people cannot recognize, suggesting
that low/mid-level image properties, rather than high-level
categorical properties determine large-scale responses in this area.
The proposed project develops on this by asking whether we can also
replicate category-specific adaptation effects which have been found
in this region using our phase-scrambled, nonsense stimuli.
Everyone is welcome to attend and refreshments will be available
after the seminar.
Best wishes
Rebecca
