FYI ------------ Sent on behalf of Dr. Chiara Nosarti Post-doctoral position at King’s College London We would like to invite applications for the post of Research Worker. This position will be fixed term for 36 months and is a full-time post. The successful candidate will play a key role in collecting and analyzing neuroimaging data from a longitudinal cohort of young adults who were born very preterm. DETAILS The successful candidate will become part of the Preterm Research Group, which is studying the effects of being born preterm on subsequent neurodevelopment, cognition and behaviour. The project, funded by the Medical Research Council, aims to investigate neurodevelopment into adulthood following very preterm birth. The successful candidate will work with a unique cohort of individuals who were born prematurely and who have been taking part in a follow-up study from birth to age 19. They are now 27-32 years old. First, the study will assess their cognition (including learning disabilities, memory and attention) and mental health. Second, the study will use various neuroimaging techniques to examine how the brain changes as people grow into adults. The aim of the study is to define for the first time maturational patterns associated with the risk of poor outcome, as well as those associated with developmental resilience, and thus guide the design of remediation strategies to be implemented at very preterm individuals at younger ages aimed at reducing or preventing long-term disability. Working closely with Lead Investigators, the successful candidate will contribute to the successful conduct and completion of the research programme. He/she will play a key role in coordinating the study, supervising the recruitment and the assessment of all study participants, conducting and supporting neuroimaging data analysis and integrating current data with those collected longitudinally. He/she will work closely with other members of the Preterm Research Group, which are directly integrated with the Department of Psychosis Studies within the Psychosis Clinical Academic Group. The successful candidate will also be involved in postgraduate teaching and will be encouraged to develop his/her own research interests. SALARY The appointment will be made at Grade 6, currently from £31,020 per annum plus £2,323 per annum London Allowance. The closing date for receipt of applications is 31th October 2012.
