Hello everyone,
Things to note this week:
1. The *GE* scanner requires a replacement cold head and so will be
*unavailable
until Wednesday the 3rd of April at the earliest. *
2. YNiC was closed for maintenance last week, this included IT upgrades
with security patching and fibre work, adjustments to the security alarm
system, and a layout change. The central meeting room off open plan is now
an extension to the staff office.
* Consent debriefing and other private interviews should be carried out in
the small sound-proof room opposite the PhD office in open plan, or the
interview room on the MRI corridor. *
3. YSPL will be doing maintenance on IT systems this week, however, this
is not expected to affect uses.
4. A large cohort of YNiC staff will be away for the MEG UK conference
15-17th of April.
*Signatures for conditional exceptions on consent forms for 15th-17th of
April must be organized for no later than the 12th of April. We would also
like to remind users that exceptions in consent forms should be arranged in
advance of the scan day in all cases. *
5. We have provisionally scheduled our next *User Induction on Thursday
the 18th of April at 10am*. Subject to availability and interest.
Please ask any relevant students/staff to email support(a)ynic.york.ac.uk
to sign up if they intend to start using the centre.
Best wishes,
Rich

Hello everyone,
Things to note this week:
1. *YNiC will be closed 27th-29th of March for vital maintenance. *Some
scans will be operating in this period due to unexpected scanner downtime
but the facility will not be accepting new bookings and will not be open
for other users.
2. A number of YNiC forms have been updated. *Please ensure that you use
the latest forms from the YNiC website
<https://www.ynic.york.ac.uk/docs/forms>* and, as usual, please read all
forms in full before signing.
Note that we will no longer start training operators until their PI/ line
manager signs to confirm that they have completed all statutory University
training.
3. We have provisionally scheduled our next *User Induction on Thursday the
4th of April at 10am*. Subject to availability and interest. Please ask
any relevant students/staff to email support(a)ynic.york.ac.uk to sign up
if they intend to start using the centre.
4. The GE scanner is down for urgent maintenance, we will have GE
engineers in to replace the cold head during the closure, with
*normal service on GE expected to resume next week from Monday the 1st of
April. *
Best wishes,
Rich

Hello everyone,
Before the notes for the coming week, we are pleased to report that the

Please ask any relevant students/staff to email support(a)ynic.york.ac.uk
to sign up if they intend to start using the centre.
2. YNiC will be visited by a group from the University of the Third Age,
as a consequence
*open plan will be closed to all users 2-4pm on Tuesday the 19th of March. *
3. Due to annual leave, we have fewer staff than usual at the moment, so
thank you for your patience with any increases in wait times for support
that may occur.

Good afternoon all,
A necklace has been handed in to YNiC reception that was found on Friday
afternoon.
If you think this is yours please come to YNiC reception to collect it.
Kind regards,
Ryan
Hi everyone
We have teaching in Open Plan on Tuesday and Friday this week between 12
and 4pm, there will be no access to open plan for anyone who is not
involved in this teaching.
Please be reminded that YNiC will be closed from Wednesday 27th to Friday
29th March for building and maintenance work. Siemens will be available as
normal on 25th March (the scheduled maintenance took place on 25th *Feb*, I
made an error in a previous email).
Finally, our next *YNiC user induction* will take place on *Wednesday 13th
March at 10am*. If you are aware of any students that will require an IT
account for YNiC, they must complete a User Induction first. Please ask
them to contact support(a)ynic.york.ac.uk to sign up for the next induction
date.
Hope you have a good week,

Hi all
We have quite a few things going on this week that we'd like you to be
aware of:
*Presentations and Inductions:*
1. We have two project presentations this Thursday, starting from
*2:30pm* in YNiC open plan. The first will be given by Adam Turnbull,
and the second by Nerissa Ho.
2. We will be running a *YNiC user induction this Wednesday* 27th at
10am - if you are aware of anyone that needs to be inducted, please ask
them to contact us to sign up (support(a)ynic.york.ac.uk).
3. There is a seminar in Biology room K018 on *Friday 1st at 1pm*, as
part of the Biomedical Sciences seminar series, by Prof Rob Lucas
(University of Manchester) entitled "Vision Beyond Rods and Cones", which
may be of interest to a number of YNiC users (
https://www.york.ac.uk/biology/news-events/seminars/infection-immunity/spri…
)
*Closures:*
1. *YNiC will be closed from 3:45pm this Thursday 28th*, after the
project presentations, in order for staff and YNiC users to attend the YBRI
Neuroscience Social (Register at
https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/ybri-social-neuroscience-theme-tickets-54695…
Password: YBRI2019)
2. *YNiC will be closed from 27th to 29th March*, in order for a number
of building and maintenance works to be carried out.
3. Open Plan will be closed for teaching this Friday between 12 and 4pm.
*Scanner Bookings:*
1. Both GE and Siemens scanners will be used for Masters projects from
the end of April. The slots restricted to these projects have been marked
on the booking system, and can only be booked for these projects.
2. Other restricted slots that occur in March will be released a week
before the scan date, in the event that they are not booked by the
restricting group. Please note that we have also added some additional
operator covered slots in Siemens on Mondays, for those weeks where the
scanner is heavily restricted.
Hope you have a good week,
Lauren

Hi everyone
Here are a few things to note for this week, and upcoming limited-staff
dates:
- There will be teaching in open plan on Tuesday and Friday, 12-4pm.
Open plan will be unavailable to users that are not attending the taught
sessions.
- *The Siemens scanner is now available for booking on Mondays. *Please be
aware that clinical scans of patients will be taking place in GE, and we
therefore ask that you maintain a professional manner in reception and the
MRI corridor if you use the Siemens scanner on the same day.
- Further to the above, Siemens will be unavailable on the 25th March
for scheduled maintenance.
- The MEG UK conference takes place in Cardiff on 15th-17th April. A
number of YNiC staff will be in attendance, and therefore on these dates
there will be no operator cover and very limited staff availability (the
centre will still be open for use).
Hope you have a good week,
Lauren
