Good morning everyone
We just have a few reminders for users today.
Firstly, as most of you will already be aware, YNiC open plan has hand
sanitiser and surface wipes available for use. Should you wish to use them
they can both be found near the coffee machine.
Secondly, we would like to remind operators of our policy for cleaning
scanner equipment between participants - please ensure this is always done
after every participant is scanned. We also have a sink and hand sanitiser
available in each scanner control room, as well as in the MRI corridor.
*Closure:*
Over the Easter period we will have a 'soft closure' from *Thursday 2nd
April until Friday 17th April*. During this time there will be no operator
cover provided and no user support, but users are still welcome to use open
plan and book the scanners in the non-operator covered slots.
*Level 0 operator Training:*
Our next scheduled Level 0 training session will take place after the
closure on Wednesday* 22nd April at 9:30am*. Please note that users
requesting Level 0 training should be a PhD, RA/Postdoc, or staff, and
should already have a project proposal submitted to YNiC.
All users that wish to be operator trained must have First Aid training.
Please ensure that this has been completed, or is booked in, before
contacting us to arrange training. Email support(a)ynic.york.ac.uk if you
have any questions or wish to book on to this session, and include which
scanner you wish to be trained on. Please note that places are limited and
are allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Training must be booked
at least a week before the session date, in order to reserve the scanner

*24 hour access*
Many of you will be pleased to know that YNiC users will now have *24hr
access to open plan*. If you use the building after 5pm or before 8:30am,
please use the main YNiC entrance, and the toilet that is in that entrance
hall (between YNiC and CHyM).
You will need to have both your YNiC fob AND your University card with you
to get into the building - use your University card on the black card
reader on the outside door, and then use your YNiC fob as usual on all
other YNiC doors.
Please be reminded that we keep a First Aid kit on the bookshelf to the
right of the coffee machine, and that you can call security if you need
emergency assistance on 01904 323333 - this number will be on display on
the notice board.
We will review this access over the coming weeks; if you have any questions
or concerns please contact support(a)ynic.york.ac.uk (operators will receive
a separate email shortly detailing the new key-holder process).
*YNiC Science Social*
The next Science Social will be given by Andre Gouws, on "Optimising FSL
and a few other tricks to make data processing easier, more efficient and
less problematic", and will take place this* Thursday 12th March at 4pm*.
At the Science Social events we have pizza and drinks, so we look forward
to seeing many of you there!

users know that a couple of places have become available on a group *First
Aid training course* this Thursday 5th March, which a number of the YNiC
staff are attending (don't worry, noone's training expires before the
5th!). Places will be filled on a first-come first-served basis (I can
pass on details for payment later), and it would be beneficial for any
users that intend to begin operator training in the coming months. Please
email support(a)ynic.york.ac.uk to reserve one of the remaining places.
*Booking system changes:*
The updates to the booking system have now been made; when making bookings
you will see that you need to specify both the 'Operator' (must be Level 1
or above) and the 'Co-Operator' (must be a Level 0 or above) when you
book. All other functionality for booking scans remains the same. Note
that this update does *not* reflect any changes in policy or procedure; as
before, two operators must be present at all times in the control room
while a participant is being scanned (one or both of the operators must be
a Level 1 or above).
If you are booking in an operator covered slot, you can specify whether you
will need both/one/none of the YNiC operators. If you are using your own
operators, then the 'Operator' must be a Level 1 or above who is listed on
the project as an operator, and the 'Co-Operator' can be anyone that is
listed on the project as a co-investigator and has current Level 0 (or
above) status (the project PI can add individuals as co-investigators via
PTS https://www.ynic.york.ac.uk/pts/, but to make a co-investigator a
listed Level 1 operator on a project the PI will need to request this via a
support ticket).
As with the previous system, once the booking has been made you won't be
able to amend the operators, so if any changes need to be made you must
email support(a)ynic.york.ac.uk to request amendments.

We have some important information for you today (honestly!).
*Closure:*
Over the Easter period will have a 'soft closure' from *Thursday 2nd April
until Friday 17th April*. Over this period there will be no operator cover
provided and no user support, but users are still welcome to use open plan
and book the scanners in the non-operator covered slots.
Please note that during this period there may be days when there is no
Level 3 operator available for authorising contraindications for scanning,
therefore it is important that participants are screened well in advance of
the scan to identify contraindications and obtain the necessary
signature(s).
*Booking system changes:*
We are updating the booking system; changes will come into effect from next
Monday 2nd March. The main change you will see on the Project Tracking
System when booking scans, is that there will be an additional operator
dropdown list so that you can select the second operator. If you are
booking in operator-covered slots you can select one or both operators as
YNiC operators (or neither if you don't require any YNiC operators).
If you are using your own operators, then the 'primary operator' must be a
Level 1 or above who is listed on the project as an operator, and the
second operator can be anyone that is listed on the project and has current
Level 0 (or above) status (the project PI can add individuals to projects
via PTS https://www.ynic.york.ac.uk/pts/). As with the previous system,

I just thought I'd drop you a line about MEGUK 2020 (6th-7th Apr), as we
are currently in the call-for-abstracts phase. This year's conference in
Cambridge is designed to be more for the students benefit, but I wanted
to make sure that all the wonderful PIs at York who are interested in
MEG were aware of the conference, and letting their postdocs and
students know about it. Students are encouraged to submit poster and
talk abstracts (there are, of course, poster prizes). It's a great place
to showcase what they are working on to a friendly community of peers.

Hi everyone
We have a few updates for you this week, before the regular notices about
training and inductions.
*Scales for both MRI Scan Rooms:*
Following suggestions from some of our users, we have purchased a second
set of weighing scales, so that we now have scales in each scan room. The
original scales have been moved from the MRI corridor to the Siemens
control room, and the new scales are in GE (on this set, simply tap your
foot on the edge of the unit to 'wake up', and wait until zero is displayed
before asking your participant to step on).
*Expiry of operator-covered slots:*
Please be advised that any unused operator-covered slots will expire at
midnight 2 working days before the slot, e.g. for slots on a Thursday you
would need to book before the end of the day (11:59pm) on the Tuesday.
This will enable YNiC staff to effectively carry out other centre
responsibilities, with advanced notice of the cover required.
It should be noted that scan bookings should always be made at least a day
before the scan session, with the participants also added to the booking
24hrs in advance.
