Projector maintenance - fMRI lamp changed

The lamp in the projector in MRI failed yesterday and had to be replaced. Any users who have luminance sensitive paradigms (i.e. who have calibrated their stimuli for luminance in the past) should consider repeating these measures and making any necessary changes as the lamp brightness may now be different. Neural dynamics actively shape and organize events in time implicitly (“temporal event-structuring”) leading to our conscious awareness of time proper (incl. simultaneity, temporal order, and duration of events but also magnitudes and “mental time travel”). Part of our work aim at understanding which aspects of sensory events and which properties of temporal cognition are fundamental to our awareness of time: how is time encoded in the brain? How does time awareness emerge? Our research group is funded by an ERC and a French ANR. The infrastructure is equipped with MEG (Neuromag, Elekta), EEG (64 or 256 sensors, combined with MEG recordings), MRI (3T and 7T), eyetrackers (SR Eyelink 1000 that is combined with Neuroimaging techniques) and soundproof psychophysical rooms. The greater Parisian scientific community is very diverse and active! * * * * *POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW position* * * Applications are invited from talented, enthusiastic and committed researchers. The ideal applicant will have a significant experience with analyzing MEG and/or EEG data and a strong research record in cognitive neurosciences. The selected postdoctoral fellow will lead MEG studies as part of the ERC funded project “Mind Time”. Research topics encompass time awareness and temporal event structure, cross-sensory attributes, magnitude system and mentalizing about time in relation to cortical oscillations. The researcher will be expected to work closely with and supervise (master, phd) students involved in the project. Biocentre Kitchen

Dear all We have received a complaint about washing-up left in the kitchen by YNiC users. The kitchen is there to be enjoyed by everyone so please could you wash and dry the pots you use and put them away? There is a crockery cupboard for general use and YNiC milk (marked as so) in the fridge which you are welcome to use. However, if you are in need of a teabag or coffee I have some in my office - please don't use the stuff in the kitchen as this belongs to York Science Park staff. This weekend - 7th of July

Dear Users This weekend we have to turn off the power to YNiC as the Biocentre is carrying out some essential maintenance to the main electrical distribution board. Although Psychmail will hopefully remain running (a UPS should provide power), other services will be affected. There will be no remote access. Any cluster jobs running will be lost and will have to be resubmitted. We believe that cluster jobs in the queue to be run will remain in the queue. Please check and be prepared to resubmit the jobs. Please log out of all machines in the open plan area by Friday afternoon - please do not leave any analysis jobs running on these machines as the jobs will be terminated and we cannot say in what state this will leave any files. In any case we will be closing down all machines early Friday evening. The website and help facilities will not be available. Projects include examining language recovery after stroke and temporal and spatial measures of treatment induced plasticity. The Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) “Volition and Cognitive Control” (http://tu-d dresden.de/die_tu_dresden/fakultaeten/fakultaet_mathematik_und_naturwissenschaften/fachrichtung_psychologie/sfbo) comprises 20 sub-projects and is funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG) for an initial period of four years with a budget of over 10 Mill. €. The overarching aim of the CRC is to combine expertise from experimental psychology, cognitive-affective neuroscience, clinical psychology, and psychiatry to investigate cognitive and neural mechanisms of volitional control as well as volitional dysfunctions in selected mental disorders. Tasks: The sub-project „Neurocognitive processes supporting flexible voluntary action“ examines the ability to adopt novel behaviors from symbolic instruction enabling behavior that it is directed towards desired (instructed) goals instead of being triggered by the currently most salient environmental cues or habitual action tendencies. The candidate is expected to participate in the design and implementation of behavioral and fMRI experiments, analyzing the data (both univariate as well as multivariate connectivity) as well as authoring scientific publications. Language for daily research communication will be English. Profile: We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong interest in Cognitive Neuroscience with a Master or equivalent degree in Psychology or related fields. We expect the ability to work independently, excellent statistics knowledge, the willingness to learn programming languages (Matlab, etc.), and proficient English. Programming skills and previous experience with fMRI are an advantage. The position involves full-time research in the domain of cognitive neuroscience. The research will be conducted in cooperation with the University Hospital of Udine, using a 3T fMRI scanner. The optimal candidate would be an imaging scientist or neuroscientist with expertise in experimental design and analysis of fMRI data.
