An RA post (50% of full time) is available for a UK Research Council funded project called /Mobility, Mood and Place: a user-centred approach to design of built environments to make mobility easy, enjoyable and meaningful for older people. /The role involves designing, conducting and interpreting EEG (electroencephalography) data to make inferences about stress states arising from movement in specific settings. The project requires expertise in experimental design and statistical manipulation of data. Relevant PhD or MSc required. Salary within the range £29,541 - £36,298 per annum, /consummate/ to /experience/, reduced pro-rata. The hours of work will be 18.5 per week, for a period of up to 3 years, although other patterns of working will be considered. 100th paper at YNiC

Many congratulations to Uzma Urooj, Piers Cornelissen, Michael Simpson, Katie Wheat, Will Woods, Laura Barca and Andy Ellis, who have just had a paper accepted by the journal Neuroimage. This is a landmark in the history of YNiC - it is the 100th paper and a measure of the authors' tremendous patience and persistence as this reports on work that started in the first few weeks of YNiC's life as a working imaging Centre. A tremendous achievement. Look out for the party announcement. It is 100 papers and almost 10 years since Andy Ellis's and Andy Young's vision resulted in the start of the building of YNiC in January 2004. 2-Year Postdoctoral Fellowship MEG, Motor Control and Autism Brain Dynamics and Cognition Lab Lyon Neuroscience Research Center, France Applications are invited for a 2-year full-time Postdoctoral Position at the Brain Dynamics and Cognition Lab of the Lyon Neuroscience Research Center (CRNL) in Lyon to work on an MEG motor control study in adults and children. The post-doc is part of an exciting new project recently funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR SAMENTA) which aims to explore the large-scale brain dynamics of motor control in healthy subjects and its alteration in autism. Key requirements The ideal candidate will have a PhD in neuroscience, cognitive sciences, neuroimaging or a related field and a strong interest in neuronal oscillations, cortico-muscular coupling, and large-scale brain dynamics. The candidate is expected to have a solid background in MEG data analysis (e.g. time-frequency analysis, source reconstruction techniques and connectivity measures) and good programming skills primarily in MATLAB. Additionally, a background in motor control and/or development studies will be beneficial. Fluency and solid writing skills in English are expected. French is not a requirement but could be an important asset. The Brain Dynamics and Cognition Lab (headed by Olivier Bertrand) is one of 11 teams that make up the Lyon Neuroscience Research Center which consists of about 350 researchers whose research covers an extremely broad range of neuroscience topics ranging from cells to organisms and from cognition to clinical applications. The imaging facilities and electrophysiological platforms available include MEG, EEG, MRI, PET, TMS and intracranial EEG. Lyon boasts a vibrant and stimulating neuroscience environment and a culturally rich city life. It is home of the Lumière brothers, the pioneers of cinema, and of Saint Exupéry (author of the Little Prince). Lyon is renowned for its traditional and gastronomic cuisine and is ideally located just an hour away from the Alpes, 2 hours from Paris and an hour and a half from Marseille and the Mediterranean sea. The overall background of the project is the investigation of the role of psychological factors in the development of risk factors such as hypertension, obesity, and smoking. The successful candidate will hold a PhD preferably in psychology or related disciplines and will ideally have prior experience with fMRI and/or ERP/EEG, as well as psychophysiological methodologies and data analysis. The candidate will have the chance to supervise PhD and Master students who use these methods. Brain Image Segmentation and Surface Labeling: The successful candidate should have a strong background on Electrical or Biomedical Engineering, or Computer Science, preferably with emphasis on image processing and pattern recognition. Experience on medical image segmentation and analysis is highly desirable. People with machine learning background are particularly encouraged to apply. Knowledge on neuroscience and programming background (good command of LINUX, C and C++, scripting, and Matlab) are desirable. The research topic will be the development and validation of methods for atlas-based tissue segmentation (of neonatal brain images) and cortical surface labeling of brain images. Deformable Segmentation: The successful candidate should have a strong background on Electrical or Biomedical Engineering, or Computer Science, preferably with emphasis on image feature extraction, shape representation, and shape statistics. Experience on medical image segmentation using deformable surface, level sets, and graph cut is highly desirable. People with machine learning background on image features and shape statistics are particularly encouraged to apply. Strong knowledge on programming (good command of LINUX, C and C++, scripting, and Matlab) are desirable. The research topic will be the development and validation of statistical deformable segmentation methods for lung, liver, prostate, and brain. Neuroimage Classification: The successful candidate should have a strong background on Electronic Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Statistics, or Computer Science, preferably with emphasis on machine learning, pattern classification, multivariate image analysis, or computer vision. PhD Position on the neural correlates of verbally instructed fear (Ghent University, Belgium) In the context of a research project of the Research Foundation – Flanders on the neural correlates of verbally instructed fear conditioning we are seeking a PhD student with an interest in functional MRI and fear conditioning. The goal of the PhD project supervised by Prof. Marcel Brass and Prof. Jan De Houwer is to investigate the brain circuits that are involved in the implementation of verbally instructed fear. The position is available for 2+2 years. Candidates should have a master degree in psychology, neuroscience, neuropsychology or a related field. Basic computer programming skills (preferably Matlab) and experience with fMRI is helpful. Furthermore, experience with psychological experiments is required. The department provides excellent brain imaging facilities with access to a research-dedicated fMRI scanner.
