Fwd: Research Fellow/Postdoc: Neuroimaging in Cerebrovascular Disease

FYI -------------- The Hospital of the University of Munich, Germany, is one of the largest and most competitive university hospitals in Germany and Europe. 45 specialized hospitals, departments and institutions harboring excellent research and education provide patient care at the highest medical level with approximately 10.000 employees. The Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich offers: Research Fellow/Postdoc: Neuroimaging in Cerebrovascular Disease (m/f) RESEARCH FOCUS and RESPONSIBILITIES: The research fellow/postdoc will work on the mechanisms of post-stroke dementia using multimodal MRI data acquired through a prospective longitudinal study that involves repeat structural and functional MRI together with amyloid PET and detailed cognitive testing. The project is funded by the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) and embedded in an ambitious imaging program on vascular cognitive impairment. The fellow/postdoc will work in a highly dynamic neuroimaging team and is encouraged to bring in own research ideas. REQUIREMENTS: The candidate should hold a PhD, MD or equivalent degree in relevant disciplines (informatics, engineering, mathematics, neuroscience), should be familiar with state of the art structural and functional imaging techniques and should have skills in image postprocessing. Solid knowledge of programming and statistics is a plus. An enthusiastic, reliable and independent work style will provide a good fit for our team. OFFER: We offer an excellent multidisciplinary environment with expertise in neuroimaging, neuropsychology, bioinformatics, epidemiology and state of the art multimodal neuroimaging equipment (3T MRI, high-density fMRI compatible EEG, molecular PET, IT infrastructure). The research team is embedded in the Munich Cluster for Systems Neurology, which is funded by the German Excellence Initiative. The research fellow will draw on a comprehensive database and technical support to facilitate efficient work conditions. He/she will work in a friendly, highly productive team at the Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research. The Central Nervous System group of CRMBM (Center for Magnetic Resonance in Biology and Medicine) in Marseille (France) is seeking for 2 post-doctoral MR physicists. The successful candidates will work on the development at UHF (7T) of advanced acquisition and post-processing techniques on the new human 7T-whole-body MR system (Siemens, Step 2) in a multidisciplinary team (20 persons). Dear Users I am going to postpone tonight's discussion of the YNiC structural scans. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience. We have been reviewing the concept of the structural scans, their content and how they are used for some time. We have carried out the same type of structural scan for the last seven years. Whilst we would not wish to just abandon current practice there is no doubt that we can improve the nature of the structural scans so that they support a wider range of research activities, are 'better' in terms of their use in various software packages and provide improved signal to noise, improved grey/white discrimination.... We have been investigating a wide range of options for the structural. I believe we need to collate and review more scientific evidence so that we can present as informed a view as possible as to the best practice going forward. We will not reach a consensus by simply debating this in a seminar without everyone having sight of the evidence beforehand. At the same time we have looked at our policy and procedures for dealing with anomalies. From the first of January this new policy will be implemented and of course we will keep you informed as to the new procedures ahead of that start date. In principle we are going to follow new guidelines and advise participants if we are sending a set of scans away for independent reporting. This also requires a careful consideration of the timing and the nature of the data we collect regarding possible anomalies. Therefore, I would like to change from a simple presentation and discussion this evening to YNiC producing a document that will examine the options, provide the evidence and suggest a way forward. This will be circulated and discussion can then take place based on all the evidence as well as any financial implications. If you would like to still come to YNiC and start the celebrations for the 100th paper, you will be very welcome. An RA post (50% of full time) is available for a UK Research Council funded project called /Mobility, Mood and Place: a user-centred approach to design of built environments to make mobility easy, enjoyable and meaningful for older people. /The role involves designing, conducting and interpreting EEG (electroencephalography) data to make inferences about stress states arising from movement in specific settings. The project requires expertise in experimental design and statistical manipulation of data. Relevant PhD or MSc required. Salary within the range £29,541 - £36,298 per annum, /consummate/ to /experience/, reduced pro-rata. The hours of work will be 18.5 per week, for a period of up to 3 years, although other patterns of working will be considered. 100th paper at YNiC

Many congratulations to Uzma Urooj, Piers Cornelissen, Michael Simpson, Katie Wheat, Will Woods, Laura Barca and Andy Ellis, who have just had a paper accepted by the journal Neuroimage. This is a landmark in the history of YNiC - it is the 100th paper and a measure of the authors' tremendous patience and persistence as this reports on work that started in the first few weeks of YNiC's life as a working imaging Centre. A tremendous achievement. Look out for the party announcement. It is 100 papers and almost 10 years since Andy Ellis's and Andy Young's vision resulted in the start of the building of YNiC in January 2004.
