Fwd: POSTDOC FELLOW postion available UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH DEPT PSYCHIATRY

*Postdoctoral Research Fellow Position at University of Pittsburgh * The Maternal Affective Neuroscience Laboratory, headed by Drs. Eydie Moses-Kolko, Alison Hipwell and Mary Phillips at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of the University of Pittsburgh, seeks a full-time postdoctoral research fellow supported by funds from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. The start date is flexible, although Fall 2013 is preferred. This position is for up to 2.5 years. We are looking for a postdoctoral associate to work on a study investigating the neural underpinnings of affective disorders and mother-infant caregiving in young, 3-6mo postpartum mothers. Specifically, the postdoctoral associate will be involved with the neuroimaging component of the study, which measures responding in neural reward circuits, affective face-processing circuits, empathy circuits while attending to infant cry, as well as resting neural circuitry. This R01 grant funded by the NICHD is a substudy of the Pittsburgh Girls’ Study, a longitudinal study in which measures of affective, cognitive, and behavioral functioning in a large, high-risk sample have been measured since childhood. This substudy project can thereby test scientific questions within a developmental context as well as examine transgeneration mechanisms of psychopathology. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for collecting and analyzing fMRI and behavioral data and writing scientific papers and giving scientific presentations. Other duties will include assisting as needed with evaluations of mothers and infants and to follow study procedures regarding management of data, to generally add to the smooth flow of the project as needed. This relies on close collaboration with research coordinators, research assistants, graduate and undergraduate students, and investigators. Position qualifications include a PhD in psychology, neuroscience, or a related field or an MD psychiatrist at the postdoctoral level; experience with fMRI acquisition and analysis; strong experimental and statistical skills; the ability to work independently and in a team environment on multiple tasks and projects and to share one’s expertise with others. Experience with neuroimaging software programs (AFNI, FSL, MATLAB, SPM, or other relevant programs), programming for fMRI tasks (E-prime, Presentation), and statistical analysis (SPM, SPSS, SAS) is highly desired. Strong interests in the development and pathophysiology of depression and are valuable. Excellent scientific writing skills are also desired. Located in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh, Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC (WPIC) is considered one of the nation's foremost university-based psychiatric care facilities, housing the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich offers: Research Fellow/Postdoc: Neuroimaging in Cerebrovascular Disease (m/f) RESEARCH FOCUS and RESPONSIBILITIES: The research fellow/postdoc will work on the mechanisms of post-stroke dementia using multimodal MRI data acquired through a prospective longitudinal study that involves repeat structural and functional MRI together with amyloid PET and detailed cognitive testing. The project is funded by the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) and embedded in an ambitious imaging program on vascular cognitive impairment. The fellow/postdoc will work in a highly dynamic neuroimaging team and is encouraged to bring in own research ideas. REQUIREMENTS: The candidate should hold a PhD, MD or equivalent degree in relevant disciplines (informatics, engineering, mathematics, neuroscience), should be familiar with state of the art structural and functional imaging techniques and should have skills in image postprocessing. Solid knowledge of programming and statistics is a plus. An enthusiastic, reliable and independent work style will provide a good fit for our team. Dear Users I am going to postpone tonight's discussion of the YNiC structural scans. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience. We have been reviewing the concept of the structural scans, their content and how they are used for some time. We have carried out the same type of structural scan for the last seven years. Whilst we would not wish to just abandon current practice there is no doubt that we can improve the nature of the structural scans so that they support a wider range of research activities, are 'better' in terms of their use in various software packages and provide improved signal to noise, improved grey/white discrimination.... We have been investigating a wide range of options for the structural. I believe we need to collate and review more scientific evidence so that we can present as informed a view as possible as to the best practice going forward. We will not reach a consensus by simply debating this in a seminar without everyone having sight of the evidence beforehand. At the same time we have looked at our policy and procedures for dealing with anomalies. From the first of January this new policy will be implemented and of course we will keep you informed as to the new procedures ahead of that start date. In principle we are going to follow new guidelines and advise participants if we are sending a set of scans away for independent reporting. This also requires a careful consideration of the timing and the nature of the data we collect regarding possible anomalies. Therefore, I would like to change from a simple presentation and discussion this evening to YNiC producing a document that will examine the options, provide the evidence and suggest a way forward. This will be circulated and discussion can then take place based on all the evidence as well as any financial implications. If you would like to still come to YNiC and start the celebrations for the 100th paper, you will be very welcome. An RA post (50% of full time) is available for a UK Research Council funded project called /Mobility, Mood and Place: a user-centred approach to design of built environments to make mobility easy, enjoyable and meaningful for older people. /The role involves designing, conducting and interpreting EEG (electroencephalography) data to make inferences about stress states arising from movement in specific settings. 100th paper at YNiC

Many congratulations to Uzma Urooj, Piers Cornelissen, Michael Simpson, Katie Wheat, Will Woods, Laura Barca and Andy Ellis, who have just had a paper accepted by the journal Neuroimage. This is a landmark in the history of YNiC - it is the 100th paper and a measure of the authors' tremendous patience and persistence as this reports on work that started in the first few weeks of YNiC's life as a working imaging Centre. A tremendous achievement. Look out for the party announcement. It is 100 papers and almost 10 years since Andy Ellis's and Andy Young's vision resulted in the start of the building of YNiC in January 2004.
