The position will have fully protected academic time and will include an appropriate academic appointment in the UBC Department of Psychiatry. This position is expected to be filled at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (Partner Track), commensurate with experience of the successful candidate. The successful applicant must have appropriate qualifications and meet UBC criteria for an academic appointment. She/He will be required to provide evidence of highly productive scholarly activity and teaching (or the potential to meet these criteria) and must have demonstrated promise as an independent investigator. The successful candidate will have training in research methodology and have publications in peer reviewed journals. The candidate will coordinate projects with collaborators from diverse specializations and must have a proven ability to effectively communicate with researchers varying widely in their knowledge and skillsets. She/he should have demonstrated effectiveness in bringing to fruition (i.e. publication) projects collaborating with individuals from another discipline than her/his own. She/He must have an established track record of research relevant to the field of neuroimaging and its application to mental health research. Development of cognitive paradigms that activate brain activity in regions impacted by psychiatric treatment will be expected. This position will require development of methodology for analyzing EEG signals, and merging this with simultaneously collected fMRI data using multivariate analysis methodologies. Contributions to non-pharmacological treatment program methodologies and clinical trials are also advantageous. She/He will be expected to contribute to the university community with responsibilities in research, teaching and service. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary environment, and needs to be able to establish collaborative working relationships with clinicians, educators and research groups. This position is for a 5 year period with the possibility of extension based upon funding availability. BCMHSUS is committed to strengthening capacity for research, knowledge exchange and academic teaching to enhance understanding and skills among service providers, policymakers and the public. Areas of focus include: Schizophrenia, using state-of-the-art brain imaging techniques to study the mechanism of illness, origin of symptoms, and changes in response to treatment; Bipolar Disorder, including laboratory studies investigating stress-related changes in brain proteins; Studies on the genetic, phenotypic, and developmental aspects of Childhood Disorders, including autism and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), spanning childhood to early adulthood; and Pharmacology studies, linked to research in progress at BC Children's Hospital, to examine medication side-effects, particularly in relation to metabolism and weight changes. Dear Users This afternoon (4.15 pm in YNiC open plan) Dr. Carolyn McGettigan from Royal Holloway will be giving a talk on "Feel the noise: Exploring individual variability in the perception of speech and vocalizations". http://www.carolynmcgettigan.com/ Abstract: This talk will present a range of behavioural and neuroimaging studies in which explorations of individual variability in perceptual performance have yielded additional insights into the systems supporting the perception of speech and vocal cues in humans. The presentation will focus on speech recognition and perceptual adaptation processes studied using cochlear implant simulations, and will also include recent work addressing the processing of emotional vocalisations such as laughter. Everyone is welcome to attend the talk and refreshments will be served afterwards. We will be taking Carolyn out for dinner after her talk. Please let me know if you would like to join us for dinner. The University of Granada has just inaugurated a new research center, the Brain, Mind and Behavior Research Center (CIMCYC-UGR; http://cimcyc.ugr.es <http://cimcyc.ugr.es/?lang=en>). The centre shares the goal of understanding how mental processes and behaviour emerge from normal brain activity, and how behavioral problems relate to the breakdown of brain functioning. The CIMCYC is composed by several research teams devoted to the study of all aspects of Psychology, encompassing Clinical and Health Psychology, Human Development, Applied Psychology, Higher Cognitive functions and social interactions. Home to the Functional Magnetic Resonance Unit of the University of Granada, the leading neuroimaging tool of Southern Spain, the CIMCYC hosts and trains over 250 researchers, and hold collaborations with over 50 researchers throughout the world. We will be pleased to support applications from post-doc researchers (who should have defended their PhD no longer than 10 years ago). We are mainly interested in profiles for professionals with proven experience in research employing MRI in humans, from the field of psychology, biology, physics, or engineering, who are proficient in the acquisition and analysis of MRI human data. Applications are to be filled-in in Spanish, although projects can be written in English. The research project should not exceed one page in length, and should include two further sections specifying the impact of the scholarship for the applicant’s career development and the relevance and impact for research performed in Andalucia (with no specified word count). The position ends 31 March 2016. ** *Job description: *The position is related to the Neuro24/7 project funded by The Danish Council for Strategic Research. The project will investigate methods for long term monitoring of brain activity based on wearable EEG devices - specifically an implantable EEG monitor developed by the company HypoSafe and so-called EarEEG devices developed at Aarhus University. The overall research objective is to establish a foundation for estimation and monitoring of mental states in natural environments. The key research objective of the position is to establish methods for estimation of ERPs and mental states based on the limited spatial resolution of the wearable systems. This will include establishment of paradigms for specific ERPs and mental states recordings. Recordings will be based on both the wearable EEG platforms and on conventional high density systems. ** *Qualifications: *Candidates should have an extensive experience in EEG recording, ERP methods, and in analyzing EEG signals. Candidates must have experience within advanced signal processing methods for EEG signals. Applications are invited for a postdoctoral researcher in the international NWO/ESRC/DFG-funded ORAplus-cooperation project 'Tracing the template: Investigating the nature, capacity and dynamics of implicit and explicit attentional sets‘ (Profs. C. Olivers, Amsterdam; M. Eimer, London; H.J. Müller, München, S. Pollmann und M. Hanke, Magdeburg). An attentional template is a flexible representation reflecting the system’s current preferences, as derived from continuously changing task demands as well as prior selection history. The project investigates the content, capacity, format and neural representation of attentional templates. To pursue this goal, the project partners will cooperate closely, using diverse methods, including eye-movement recordings, EEG and fMRI. For the fMRI-studies that will be carried out centrally in Magdeburg, we are looking for a postdoc with fMRI-experience. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work with both an international consortium of attention researchers and in one of Germany's leading imaging facilities. Research institutions in Magdeburg, such as the Otto-von- Guericke-University, the Leibniz-Institute for Neurobiology, and the German Center for Neuro-Degenerative Diseases, offer a multitude of research-dedicated MRI-scanners (Siemens Magnetom (7 Tesla), Siemens Trio, Siemens Verio, Siemens Skyra und Philips Achieva). The Faculty of Psychology, Higher School of Economics (Moscow) is looking for a team leader for the new laboratory of Neurobiology of Speech and Language, which is in the process of being established at HSE. The projected main directions of research in the laboratory are: -Neural dynamics of language comprehension; -Language learning; -Language neurotechnology. These projects are carried out in collaboration with the Centre of Functionally Integrative Neuroscience (CFIN) at Aarhus University, Denmark, and other international collaborators. CFIN is represented by Professor Yury Shtyrov, who is a visiting professor at HSE and is involved in developing speech and language research at the new laboratory. The postholder will have an advantage of being able to further define and expand this programme of research, in collaboration with Prof. Shtyrov as well as faculty staff and other collaborators, and with support of postdoctoral researchers and PhD students. Research facilities include multi-channel EEG, navigated TMS-EEG and eye-tracking equipment, all recently installed at the Faculty, as well as access to MEG and fMRI at collaborator sites in Moscow.
