Dear all,
A year ago we were awarded ~£100k from a university capital equipment
renewal grant to overhaul our IT infrastructure at YNiC. I am pleased to
say Joe and the wider YNiC team have been working hard since then and we
now have the following equipment.
The open plan desktops are new:
Intel Core i7 14700 28 Core CPUs (up from Intel i7 4770 8 core)
32GB RAM at 5600HMz with 4 64GB models available.
2560x1440 QHD displays
The stimulus PCs are new:
Intel Core i7 14700 28 Core CPUs (up from i7 4770 8 core)
32GB RAM at 5600HMz
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 8GB (Up from AMD Radeon HD 6670 1GB)
There's a nice comparison for the GPUs here,
https://technical.city/en/video/Radeon-HD-6670-vs-GeForce-RTX-4060.
We have also purchased new storage, which will be hosted centrally. We
are currently working to allow access to this, and we will email YNiC
users with details when this is available.
Separate from this equipment renewal grant, we are planning on upgrading
the network switching infrastructure to improve resilience (funded by
central IT). We will also be upgrading the desktop software, which will
come with updated versions of the regular software packages:
Psychopy 2025.2
Matlab 2025a
Python 3.11
FreeSurfer (7.3, 7.4.1 and 8.1)
FSL 6.0.7.18
A big thank you to Joe and the wider YNiC team for their hard work in
relation to all of this. I hope it makes your experience at YNiC that
bit more enjoyable. Any questions/issues please use the usual YNiC
support ticketing system, or come to YNiC and talk to us :)
Best wishes,
Aidan
