Hi everyone
I hope you are all doing well this week.
As you might expect, we don't have any new announcements for you, so here
are the usual reminders, and a link to our Thursday Journal Club talk for
this week (that's right, we've already picked it this week!).
*Logging out of the Remote Desktop*
We would like to remind users about the importance of *logging out* to end
remote desktop sessions at the end of the day. You should treat the remote
desktop in the same way as the open plan PCs, and log out as you normally
would once you finish for the day (i.e. Applications > Log Out) - once
you've logged out your session should automatically terminate, but if not,
you should also terminate the session on the x2go client.
*Support*
If you have any questions or need assistance, no matter how minor, please
send an email to support(a)ynic.york.ac.uk, rather than to specific
individuals, as this will be the best way to get help quickly.
*YNiC Journal Club - Thursday 4pm*
This week the talk we will be watching together is the Keynote lecture from
OHBM 2019 by Roshan Cools, title: "Chemistry of the Adaptive Mind" (
https://www.pathlms.com/ohbm/courses/12238/sections/15844/video_presentatio…
)
We will all join a zoom meeting (details below), and one of the YNiC staff
will host the video for everyone to watch together - we can then pause
during the talk if necessary, add comments in the zoom chat, or just
discuss it at the end. Note that there is no pressure to have your mic or
video on at any time during or after the talk (you also don't need to watch
it in advance).

Last week we did a screen share of a YouTube video from a talk at the OSA
Fall Vision Meeting - this worked pretty well and so we will continue this
format for now (no advanced prep required!). As usual, we haven't decided
on the video yet, but what I will do is add the YouTube link to the zoom
meeting title once we have decided (in case you want to see what's on the
agenda before attending the Journal Club).
The plan is that we will all join a zoom meeting (details below), and one
of us will host the video for everyone to watch together - we can then
pause during the talk if necessary, or just discuss it at the end.

Hi everyone
I hope you enjoyed the extended Bank Holiday weekend (despite the limited
options for activities!).
YNiC staff are continuing to maintain the centre (on an alternating
schedule to maintain social distancing) to ensure that MEG helium fills,
MRI scanner DQAs, and Backups are performed regularly.
We have a couple of points we would like to make YNiC users aware of today:
*Closing Remote Desktop Sessions*
Once you have finished your remote desktop sessions for the day, whenever
possible please log out and shutdown your session (rather than just
suspending).
*Support*
If you have any questions or need assistance, no matter how minor, please
send an email to support(a)ynic.york.ac.uk, rather than to specific

*YNiC Journal Club - Thursday 4pm*
This week we will be watching a YouTube video of a talk given by Kendrick
Kay at the OSA Fall Vision Meeting in 2017, titled: "Bottom-up and Top-down
computations in word- and face-selective cortex".
The plan is that we will all join a zoom meeting (details below), and one
of us will host the video for everyone to watch together - we can then
pause during the talk if necessary, or just discuss it at the end. If you
want to watch it in advance, or can't make it on Thursday, the link is

Hi all
I hope everyone is staying safe and well.
As you may have seen, the University is adding an extra two days to the
Easter holiday this weekend, so the University will be closed from
Wednesday 8th to Monday 13th April. Therefore, YNiC user support will also
be unavailable over that period. You will still be able to use the remote
desktop, if you wish.
More hard work from Joe, Mark and Rich last week means that we've now
increased our remote desktop capacity even further. However, to ensure
that everyone can make use of the remote desktop, please note that any
large analyses must *only *be run on the cluster, and not directly on the
remote desktop. Any users that do not use the remote desktop responsibly
will have their sessions terminated by our IT team, so please adhere to
this restriction. Please see the
information and further page links here:
https://www.ynic.york.ac.uk/docs/ITPages/Cluster.
I hope you are able to enjoy some work-free time over the bank holiday
weekend! In the meantime, if you are experiencing any technical issues
please send us a ticket at support(a)ynic.york.ac.uk, with screenshots and
details of the errors.
All the best
Lauren

Hi everyone
Apologies for the delay in sending you the paper for this week. Alex Wade
will be presenting the attached paper by Tyler, Lani and Hwang (2018),
Ultrasonic modulation of neural circuit activity, Current Opinion in
Neurobiology.
The link to the google hangout is here: https://meet.google.com/mzy-titj-yrq
Last week we had a little chat at the start, but mainly had cameras and
mic's off so that it was easier to hear the presenter, so we'll go for that
method again this time.
See you (sort of) at 4pm!
Lauren
