POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE

The Center for Cognitive Aging and Memory is recruiting for a 2-year
postdoctoral research position at the University of Florida. The
candidate will participate in studies of cognitive aging, broadly
defined, using multimodal neuroimaging (e.g., BOLD, MRS, HARDI, ASL,
etc.), neurophysiology (e.g., EEG, ERP), and neuromodulation (TMS,
tDCS). Areas of research focus may include healthy aging, HIV, substance
abuse, and comorbid conditions influencing the cognitive aging process
(e.g., obesity, cardiovascular disease, etc.) The candidate should have
a Ph.D. degree in cognitive neuroscience, psychology, epigenetics,
biomedical engineering or related fields. Alternatively, we will
consider M.D. candidates having completed residency training in
Neurology or Psychiatry or prior to residency training, with a
demonstrated interest and track record in neuroimaging, neurophysiology,
or neuromodulation research. Candidates should have an interest in
understanding the neural mechanisms of cognitive aging and/or
development of novel intervention strategies. This position does not
have clinical assessment or patient care responsibilities.
Experience with _either_ 1) fMRI/other neuroimaging or 2) EEG/ERP data
collection and analysis is required. Experience with TMS or tDCS is
preferred, but not required. For candidates with a neuroimaging
background, the candidate should have a solid background in the
principles of structural and/or functional MRI and have had experience
in clinical and translational MRI research and development. They will
also have analytical skills in the programming language needed for
functional task design (e.g., Matlab, Presentation, EPrime) and
experience with neuroimaging analyses software (e.g., SPM, FSL). For
candidates with a neurophysiology background, the candidate should have
a solid background in the principles of EEG and ERP, skills in at least
one programming language needed for task design (e.g., Matlab,
Presentation, EPrime) and experience with electrophysiology analyses
software (e.g., EEGLab, ERPLab, etc.). The Fellow will be supervised by
Dr. Adam Woods and Dr. Ronald Cohen and will be responsible for data
acquisition, processing, and analysis on ongoing projects,
self-initiation of new projects, and contribution to the preparation of
manuscripts.
This Fellowship offers an outstanding training environment, in which the
successful candidate will be contributing to state-of-the-art multimodal
translational research in the field of cognitive aging. The position
start date is flexible, but should be no later than September 2015. A

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position to study social
decision-making using fMRI in healthy subjects and intracranial
recordings in patients with epilepsy. Our research group combines
multimodal neuroimaging with computational modelling to characterise the
neural mechanisms underlying human social decision-making. The focus of
the project will be to unravel the neural correlates of social
decision-making using probabilistic representations of other’s
intentions. We will use such approach to model ways in which we predict
hypothetical action outcomes, the intentions of others and whether the
other is cooperative or competitive. This will be implemented by
parallel experiments using multimodal intracranial recordings and fMRI
in humans to exploit maximally the experimental advantages of each technic.
Candidates must have (or nearing completion of) a PhD degree in
neuroscience, social psychology, behavioral economics, computational
neuroscience or a related discipline. Candidates must have previous
practical experience and working knowledge of human neuroimaging (EEG
and/or model-based fMRI). The candidate must also have working knowledge
of experimental statistics, signal processing and excellent programming
skills in Matlab. Previous experience in simultaneous EEG/fMRI
experiments, advanced multivariate data analysis and computational
modelling is desirable but not required. The Institute of Cognitive
Science is located in Lyon, France, a thriving university city. The
Institute hosts an interdisciplinary neuroscience community with access
to several brain imaging facilities, such as one research-dedicated 3T
scanner, MEG, TEP, intracranial EEG in patients with epilepsy and other

including significant publications (as main author) in your respective
field. You may also be able to demonstrate a record of invited
presentations at well-established international conferences, and awards
of grants and prizes.
A Research Support Grant will be provided to support your preliminary
research. The amount awarded will be decided on a case-by-case basis,
and determined by your estimation of research ‘running costs’ in the
first eighteen months of appointment. In all cases, £3,000 will be
ring-fenced for costs associated with the publication and dissemination
of your research. You will be supported individually and as a cohort,
through monthly personal and professional development training. You will
be mentored by an internationally excellent academic who is around ten
years ahead in career terms. After the four-year Fellowship period of
this post you will become a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer.
These are open-ended appointments with a start date of 1 October 2015.

We are seeking three highly motivated PhD students at the Dept. of Experimental Psychology, Ghent University (Belgium), each for a 4-year contract. One candidate will be associated with the lab of Nico Boehler (funded by the FWO), and two candidates with the lab of Ruth Krebs (funded by an ERC starting grant). A common focus of our labs is the investigation of the effect of motivation on various cognitive functions on the behavioral and the neural level (see our webpages for related publications http://expsy.ugent.be/staff/cstaff.htm)
Our department hosts several research groups in the realm of cognitive psychology and cognitive neuroscience, creating a dynamic research environment including regular internal talk series as well as presentations by invited speakers. We have access to state-of-the-art equipment including a research-dedicated 3-tesla MR scanner (Siemens), a Biosemi EEG system, as well as an MR-compatible EEG system, eye-tracking devices, and a TMS lab.
All three positions will involve behavioral and fMRI experiments, but extensions to EEG and combined fMRI-EEG are possible. Content-wise, the project with Nico Boehler will investigate the role of reward effects on pro-active and re-active control during conflict resolution and response inhibition. The projects with Ruth Krebs are focused on the interaction between reward and emotion processing and the immediate and long-term effects of such interactions in different tasks.
Candidates are expected to have a Master's degree in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, or a closely related discipline at the starting date. Experience with neuroimaging methods as well as programming skills would be an asset.
The planned starting date for all three positions is October 1st 2015, although one of them could also start earlier. Salary is according to standard Belgian regulations (scholarship: ± €22.000,‐ net/year). Although the governing language at Ghent University is Dutch, knowledge of Dutch is not a pre-requisite.
